Wilton “Jake” Hines

Virden – Wilton “Jake” Hines, 88 of Virden, IL passed away Thurs. Dec. 13, 2012 at Heritage Health in Springfield, IL.

Jake was born Feb. 3, 1924 in Girard, IL, a son of Lewis E. and Cleda (Ganger) Hines. He married Bertha F. Kirby July 26, 1942 in Virden, IL.  He worked for 30 years at Fiat-Allis in Springfield, IL retiring in 1978 and drove a school bus for the Virden School District for 20 years. Jake also worked part-time for Berry Motors and Payne Pontiac. Jake was a charter member of the Virden Church of the Nazarene where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and a board member. He was a WW II Army veteran and was a member of the Virden American Legion.

Surviving are his two daughters, Ginger (Paul) Case of Virden, IL and Shawn (Bob) Arnold of Springfield, IL, his sister Mary Lou Ersery of Virden, IL a brother, Olyn L. “Ike” (Loraine) Hines of Girard, IL, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His wife, Bertha F. Hines, preceded Jake in death.

Visitation for Jake will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday Dec. 16, 2012 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with funeral services at the 10:30 a.m. Monday Dec. 17, 2012 at the funeral home with Rev. Steve Gocking officiating.  Soloist, Mark Kirby. Burial will be in Virden Cemetery with memorials to the Virden Church of the Nazarene. Honorary Pallbearers were A.C. Page, Gary Wolfe, Mark Kirby and Jack Kirby Sr., pallbearers were, Eric and Andrew Wolfe, Rick Menser, Andrew Reeves, Gary Plessa, Eldon and Evan Case.
