Velma Kathrya Hamilton 

Virden – Velma K. Hamilton 103 passed away Friday Dec. 7, 2012 at her home.

Velma was born Nov. 26, 1909 to William M. and Ida L. (Beckner) Gibson on a farm west of Virden the last of 5 children. She was a 1928 graduate of Girard High School and was married to James D. “Dave” Hamilton on Sept. 29, 1928 in Girard for 82 years and 10 months. They had two children, Dwain (deceased) and Phyllis Bosler. She was a member of the Virden Church of The Brethren where she taught Sunday School Classes, Mission Director, pianist, organist and sang with her husband, son and daughter in the choir. She was formerly the secretary for the yoked Virden and Girard Church of the Brethren. She formerly worked at Sprague’s Drug Store, Your Flower and Gift Shop and worked in the cafeteria and kitchen for four years at the Virden High School.

Surviving Velma is her daughter, Phyllis Bosler, 5 granddaughters, Debra (Ron) Bond, Jill (Jim) Best, Nancy (Robert) Abruscato, SueZann Bosler and Lynette (William) Casper, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Dave Hamilton, son, Dwain Hamilton, brothers, Wilbur and Claude Gibson and sisters, Alta Moreland and Lola Deming, precedes Velma in death.

Visitation will from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday Dec. 9, 2012 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Monday Dec. 10, 2012 at the Virden Church of the Brethren, Virden, IL with Rev. Robert Funk and Rev. David Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Virden, IL. Memorials may be made to the Virden Church of the Brethren or to The Christian Appalachian Project Inc. 6550 Rt. 321 South Hagerhill, KY 41222.
